Sculptor Julie Campagna
Sculptor Julie Campagna has been living, working and showing her work in a small studio apartment in Parkdale neighborhood of Toronto for nearly 30 years. Due to rent control and commercial/residential zoning, she was able to convert her living space into a tiny gallery of her miniature sculptures. Living simply and cheaply allowed her to pursue art on her own terms - without an agent, dealer, or gallerist. Parkdale neighborhood is experiencing rapid gentrification. Many low-income families, artists, and freelancers are being pushed out. The community of Julie's building had also gone through the courts resisting the forced evictions. For the time being, they have succeeded and will stay in their homes.
